Nancy Leigh Fisher

Caraway and Nancy Nancy Leigh Fisher was born in Louisville, KY, just a few miles from the famous Rock Creek Riding Club.  Nancy, however, was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where her riding career started at the age of six under the direction of Estaire Berkeley at the Ft. Lauderdale Riding School.  Nancy's parents were originally from Wausau, Wisconsin where they owned a summer home.  Nancy has always thought of herself as a Wisconsin native and returned here nineteen years ago.Nancy

During her teenage years, Nancy spent summers riding in Kentucky under the direction of legendary trainers such as Tom Moore, Jim B. Robertson, Ed Teater and Garlund Bradshaw.  Nancy would work her own horses in the winters and then in late spring move them to these trainers for the show season.

Nancy is probably best remembered for her rides with the three-gaited mare Cara Mia.  In 1969, they won the Minton Memorial Juvenile Three-Gaited World Championship and in 1970 successfully moved up to the Amateur division, winning the Amateur Three-Gaited Over 15.2 and Amateur Three-Gaited World Championships.  1970 was an undefeated year for Nancy and Cara Mia.  The next year they returned to Louisville to defend and retain their Amateur Over 15.2 title.  They were reserve in the Championship.  In 1971, Nancy was also successful with her gaited mare Wing's Fair Lady, winning the Amateur Mare class and the Amateur Five-Gaited Championship.

In more recent years, Nancy has had success with her exciting three-gaited mare Caraway.  Caraway also did duty as a mom giving birth to 4 embryo transplant babies for Nancy.  The first being Spike Leigh, who won the Amateur Three-Year Old Pleasure Futurity at Louisville in 1998.  Spike has had great success this past year with Nancy's daughter Alice in the Junior Pleasure Division.  Unattached and NancySpike has recently been sold and will reside in Indiana as an equitation horse.  Nancy currently owns and is very excited about Caraway's second foal, now three years old, Absolut-leigh So, who will be debuting in the Three Year Old Three-Gaited Division this year.  HHF is also the home for Eddie Attache, owned by Barbara Baron and Caraway's last foal under Nancy's ownership.  Nancy's two past champion geldings, Unattached and Callaway's Checkmate, currently are retired and living the life at HHF.

Nancy SwimmingNancy resides across the road from HHF with daughter Alice and her four Jack Russells; Jackie, Victor, Lucy and Jane.  Nancy's other lessor known passion is her swimming.   Nancy at one time held six Masters World Records of which one of them she still holds.  Nancy still swims competitively and most recently won eight events at the YMCA Masters Nationals setting YMCA records in all eight events.

At the moment, Nancy has six horses at HHF; the retired above mentioned "Tom" and "Chester", the three year old ("Harleigh"), her gaited gelding (King of Class) and her four year old mare (Champagne and Candlelight).
